We Are KRT Sound Lab
— a small, boutique recording studio tucked away in Byhalia, Mississippi. Here, music isn’t mass-produced. It’s crafted with care, attention, and the kind of hands-on passion that only comes from decades of living and breathing rock ‘n’ roll.
Our Story
KRT Sound Lab was born from a friendship that started in 1984. That’s when Barry Kemp, Jay Roberts, and Van Toomey first crossed paths as bandmates in the Memphis rock band Billy and the Blasters. Back then, we were young, loud, and chasing that perfect take in smoky clubs and makeshift rehearsal spaces across the Mid-South.
Forty years later, we’re still chasing that same magic — only now we get to help other artists find it too. After all those years on the road and in the trenches, we decided to create a space where musicians could focus purely on the music: no corporate pressure, no giant facility feel, just a comfortable, inspiring environment built for real creativity.
